Biassono Campus

The project proposal designs a new urban fragment that bridges existing gaps, creating a school and civic campus integrated with the middle school and a landscaped park. The primary goal is to offer residents an open and unified space, where the defining feature is a long, sand-colored concrete portico. This structure spans the entire area, unifying the new complex, the existing school, and the Parco delle Generazioni, while also serving as a gateway and protected pathway. A raised pavement on the main road physically connects the two school campuses without disrupting the traffic flow, supported by an underground connection that allows middle school students to use the new gym.

The school campus is divided into four blocks arranged around a central courtyard: two are dedicated to teaching, one houses the gym with a covered playing field, and the last houses the auditorium, cafeteria, and library. At the corners, glass pavilions serve as hinges and entrances, while the flexible layout allows the gym and auditorium to function independently for extracurricular purposes. A side plaza with a café further opens the complex to the neighborhood, fostering social integration.

From a construction perspective, CLT panels and glulam were chosen to ensure sustainability and rapid construction. The aesthetic recalls Lombard tradition, with light-colored brick cladding, red lime plaster for the gym, and wooden window frames with integrated shading systems. Finally, the greenery system completes the project, alternating external perimeter gardens with an agora in the internal courtyard, transforming the area into a unifying and vital urban landmark for the Biassono community.
